Just as in vitro biopharmaceutic property profiling can be used to predict absorption potential and bioavailability before animal studies, these techniques are also valuable for understanding the source of poor in vivo results. Retrospective in vitro analysis of permeability, solubility, intestinal and hepatic metabolism and protein binding can explain early animal results. Similarly, such models can help identify potential for species specific PK properties.
